Escaping from the ambient temperature to border the low temperatures, to feel the wind in the face and to fight against the hills’ heights and the volcanos slopes alongside the road that leads to Paso de Jama, frontier mountain pass with Argentina. Nonetheless, this tour invites you to know a more exclusive part of San Pedro: unique places with low traffic, where the sun touches the neck and the back, but the heat is unnoticed when the altiplanic cold goes through your arms and wraps you in its soft breeze to take you to cross the hills’ slopes over 4000 meters high. In this tour you visit unique lagoons, salt flats at the foot of hills, volcanoes and its erosions, and viewpoints with incredible sights that will take you to know the other side of the Atacama Desert.

Let's explore one of the largest calderas in the world. On this occasion we will travel to the east ascending a mountain that will quickly allow us to reach 4600 masl or 2858 masl to the Altiplano where we will be able to observe springs formed by the melting of the high peaks. We may see the fragile and shy Vicuña in its natural highland habitat and if we are lucky we may see an Andean Fox. We will then visit a less-visited salt flat (salt flat) called Salar de Pujsa (Pujsa Salt Flats), nesting site of the James's Flamingo, which in cool weather can be found on the altiplano and during the colder months are found below in the lagoons of the Salar Atacama (Basin of the Salar de Atacama). Next, we will travel northwest entering the Caldera la Pacana (Pacana Crater), a huge volcanic depression of 2000 square kilometers, where we will be able to see the last erosive acts that created the Monjes de Pacana (Pacana Monks), ignimbrite formations .
