This peaceful area is dedicated to Dante Alighieri, who died in Ravenna in 1321 while in exile from Florence. His remains rest in a small neoclassical tomb built in the 18th century. The surrounding “Zone of Silence” is a quiet memorial space where a lamp burns continuously with oil donated each year by the city of Florence, honoring the author of the Divine Comedy.
