The village of Papingo is located in Zagorochoria, an area that is in the Tentative Lists of UNESCO Heritage Sites, near the northern end of the Vikos Gorge and is inside the Vikos–Aoös National Park. Vikos Gorge is the largest canyon in Greece and arguably in all of Europe: it is the gorge with the greatest depth to width ratio, according to the Guinness Book of Records 1997. The village of Papingo is surrounded by deciduous forests and topped by the snowcapped Astraka peak of Mt Tymphe, that towers over the village.

Ioannina
We begin our tour from Ioannina and we follow the path “up to the road” that leads to the place behind the mountain (Zagori means the place behind the mountain). We head towards Aristi village, via a trail that offers us a complete view of the canyon.

Then we make a stop to Vikos village, which has a unique view of the inside of Vikos canyon.

Afterwards, we’ll move towards the big and small Papingo, in which we’ll enjoy both our beverage and the wonderful view of the impressive “Papingo Towers”. This location offers one of the best views to the Gorge.

Rivière Voidomatis
As we continue our Half Day Tour to Papingo, we will visit Voidomatis river, so as to explore the area.
Ending our tour, crossing the villages of central Zagori, we return to Ioannina.
