Great Plaza
This stunning open space is surrounded by some of Tikal's most iconic structures:
The imposing Temple of the Great Jaguar (Temple I), built as a tomb of the ruler Jasaw Chan K'awiil I, one of the most important figures in the history of the city.
Just opposite, Temple II (Temple of Masks), from where you get one of the best panoramic views of the entire square.
And the Mayan Ball Game, where rituals that went beyond sport were performed, linked to the worldview and the balance between the earthly and spiritual worlds.
Here, every structure tells a story... from sacred rituals to the political power that dominated much of the Mayan world.
This is undoubtedly one of the most striking moments of the tour, where the greatness of Tikal is revealed in all its glory, surrounded by the jungle and wrapped in an atmosphere that connects past and present.

Tikal Temple III
Temple III, also known as the Grand Priest Temple, is one of the tallest structures in Tikal National Park, reaching approximately 55 meters high.
Built around 810 AD, this temple stands out for its impressive crest (structure at the top), which still retains carved details depicting high-ranking figures, possibly an important ruler or priest.
Although not always accessible for climbing, its majesty can be appreciated from different points of the site, being a clear example of the power and architectural sophistication of Mayan civilization in its last years of splendor.

Temple IV
At approximately 70 meters high, it is the highest pyramid on the site and one of the highest in the entire Mayan civilization.
View over the jungle
Climbing to its top is a unique experience: from above you can see the rainforest tops and standing out among them other Mayan temples. It is famous for its spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
Connection with astronomy
It is aligned in such a way that other important temples can be observed from its top, suggesting ceremonial and astronomical use.
It was the scene of Star Wars
Scenes from the rebel base on Yavin’s moon were filmed here in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, making it even more iconic worldwide.
Dedicated to a powerful ruler
It was built around 741 AD by the Mayan ruler Yik'in Chan K'awiil, one of the most important in the city.

Lost World
It is the oldest ceremonial square in Tikal, built around 400 BC, long before the great temples that everyone knows were erected.
Design and structure: The square is very wide and rectangular, with several platforms and stairs that served for public rituals and religious ceremonies. Its construction reflects the Mayan mastery of architecture and urban planning.
Social and ceremonial function: It was used as a gathering place for the community, as well as a place for astronomical observations, as the structures around it are aligned with important solar events, such as solstices and equinoxes.
Visitor experience: Walking through the square allows you to imagine the life of the ancient Mayans, their rituals and celebrations, making it feel like you are treading on a real lost world, almost intact after more than two thousand years of history.
