On this tour we present Europe's largest synagogue the Dohany, the Heroes' Temple synagogue and the recently renovated magnificent Rumbach synagogue from inside, while we stroll along the streets of the former Budapest Ghetto and learn about Righteous Gentiles who helped save many lives during the dark times of the Hungarian Holocaust and Jewish life in Budapest today. The tour offers an insight into the various Hungarian Jewish movements in today's cultural, commercial and entertainment center of our colorful, multicultural and breathtaking Budapest. Budapest Jewish Heritage: Synagogues, Shoes, Secrets & Flódni — Private Walking Tour (2.5 hours) Take a personalized walking tour with a historian guide to uncover Budapest’s Jewish heritage. Explore the historic Jewish Quarter and key memorials while tracing the community’s 19th-century integration, the rise of 20th-century antisemitism, and the devastation of the Holocaust. Learn about everyday customs, life in the ghetto after the 1944–45 German occupation, and why many survivors saw the Red Army’s 1945 arrival as liberation. Along the way, discover landmark synagogues, hidden courtyards, and how Jewish contributions still shape the city’s architecture, culture and food today. Important: A visit to Shoes on the Danube Bank is included in our 2-hour tour, but not part of this 2.5-hour (2h45m) program. Optional treat: we’ll stop for a flódni tasting (own expense) — a classic Hungarian-Jewish layered pastry with poppy seed, walnut, apple, and plum jam (contains nuts and gluten).

Let’s walk around in the 7th District Jewish Quarter of Budapest and explore the rich history of the Hungarian Jewish Community. We also show you the changes that took place in the district since the 1990s and how it has become the bohemian quarter of the city regaining slowly its old character as well. On this tour, we visit the three historical synagogues: the Dohàny street, the Kazinczy Street Orthodox Synagogue and even the recently renovated Rumbach Street Synagogue. The tour will take you to other sites as well related to the turbulent history of the Jewish community living in this part of Budapest. We even take you down to the Shoes on the Danube Memorial near the Parliament building upon request. We also introduce you to other parts of the Jewish heritage we won't miss tasting our special and traditional Jewish pastry.
