Saltstraumen is known as the strongest tidal current in the world, and Valnesfossen is a 60 meter high waterfall falling down the cliff. On this tour we bring you close to both of these scenic viewpoints. Saltstraumen is at its strongest four times every day with a maximum speed of almost 40 km/hr. Within a six hr period it’s up to 380 cubic meters flowing through below the bridge. Saltstraumen is a great source of life. The Eider duck is often seen swimming around, and if you’re lucky we might see the white tailed eagle flying on the sky. The power of the current is enormous and the history from the area is really fascinating.

Valnesfossen
The trek to Valnesfossen is about 3,5 km / 2,2 miles. When walking on snow we’ll use the traditional snowshoes and poles on the trek. Snowshoeing is a great activity in the wintertime and makes walking in snow covered terrain into a much greater experience. It’s important to bring good outdoorsy shoes on this hike. Most of the hike is in flat terrain along a nice river on nice paths. If it’s rainy conditions some small creeks can grow big quite fast, which make one crossing a bit challenging.
In the forest and along the river you can be lucky to experience a great variety of life. The salmon swims in the river, and the national bird of Norway, the white-throated dipper, can be seen jumping the wet rocks. In between the pines and the spruces you can observe tracks from the moose, fox and the rabbit.
