During this time, you can choose your own pace — explore independently or join your knowledgeable Driver-Guide on some of the region’s most scenic walking trails. Options include gentle lakeside walks around Dove Lake, hikes to elevated lookouts with sweeping alpine views, visits to the Interpretation Centre, or simply relaxing and taking in the scenery. If you prefer a quieter moment, you can also unwind at Cradle Mountain Lodge, perhaps by the fire, surrounded by mountain wilderness. We stop in the charming town of Deloraine for breakfast at Mumma Buzz Café & Takeaway, a much-loved local spot known for its excellent menu and warm country atmosphere. Enjoy a hearty breakfast around 9:00am, the perfect fuel to set you up for a big day of exploring ahead.

On the return journey to Hobart, we stop in Deloraine for an evening meal at the historic Empire Hotel. Serving both travellers and locals for over 150 years, the Empire is known for its welcoming atmosphere and quality menu — a relaxed and satisfying way to round off a big day of adventure.

We enjoy a scenic drive along the River Derwent, taking in views of one of Tasmania’s most iconic waterways as we pass through the region.

We make a short stop at the Ross Female Factory, allowing around 10 minutes to stretch your legs and take photos at this important historic site.
