One of the oldest sacred sites in the cité, this church mixes Romanesque strength with Gothic elegance. The sculpted doorway, flying buttresses, and stained-glass windows are stunning—even from the outside.

Even without entering, the castle’s outer drawbridge and double defenses are awe-inspiring. This inner fortress is where Carcassonne’s counts once ruled and where attackers once stopped short.

Dating back to the 14th century, this stone bridge connects the medieval cité to the Bastide Saint-Louis (lower town). Its gentle curve frames views of the walled city perfectly—especially at sunset.

The walk ends in this bustling central square in the lower town, shaded by plane trees and ringed by cafés. On market days, it’s a swirl of colors, voices, and Provençal produce.
