Itinerary
During this introductory Waka Ama lesson, guests learn the basics of paddling an outrigger canoe under the guided instruction from local Māori instructors. The session begins on land with equipment setup, safety guidance, and instruction on paddling technique, seating, and teamwork. Guests then take to the water, practicing strokes, timing, and coordination with their crew while exploring Mount Maunganui’s coastline and enjoying views of Mauao and the surrounding coastal scenery. Instructors provide support and feedback throughout, allowing guests to build confidence, work together as a team, and connect with the moana in real coastal conditions.
