Situated at the highest peak of Zanzibar; about 120 meters above sea level, the Masingini forest was established in the 1950s for the purpose of conservation of water sources and soil.
The forest is an essential part of the water supply for Zanzibar town by creating large groundwater storages. Mangini has deep soil rich in nutrients that creates a lush living environment for a large variety of plants and animal species.
While navigating the Masingini forest you will be feeling like one with nature connecting with the home of more the 179 plant species including endemic and rare native species. Where you are accompanied by the native Zanzibar famous Red Colobus monkeys
