Poenari Fortress, the real fortress of Vlad the Impaler and one of Romania’s most important medieval landmarks, was originally built in the 13th century and rebuilt by Vlad the Impaler in the 15th century as a strategic defense against Ottoman invasions.
Located high above the Argeș Valley in the Carpathian Mountains, the fortress offers spectacular panoramic views and an authentic glimpse into medieval Romanian history and Dracula legends. Access is via 1,480 stairs, making the visit a unique mix of history, adventure, and nature.
IMPORTANT: Access to Poenari Fortress depends on local authority updates regarding bear activity in the area. If access is restricted for safety reasons, the presentation will take place from the base of the mountain, without climbing to the fortress.
