During the grape harvest season, a unique opportunity arises at Kies Family Wines in Barossa Valley. Under the guidance of the winemaker, participants will hand-pick grapes, assess their quality, and engage in the initial stages of winemaking, including processing the grapes into fresh juice and optional grape stomping. Itinerary
This is a hands-on, winemaker-led harvest experience that takes guests through the first stages of winemaking.
Begin in the vineyard with an introduction to the grape variety and how winemakers assess ripeness during vintage. Learn what influences harvest decisions, including flavour, sugar and acidity.
Guests are provided with secateurs and baskets and shown how to safely hand-harvest grapes. Each guest will pick approximately 20 bunches of grapes using traditional harvesting techniques.
Move to the processing area to transform grapes into juice. Guests can choose between foot stomping in an open fermenter or bucket processing, where grapes are crushed and juice is collected using gravit...
