You'll see the Peter Iredale, the oldest shipwreck still visible on the Oregon coast—its rusted bones a haunting reminder of the region’s treacherous waters.
Next, we’ll visit the South Jetty Observation Tower, where you’ll stand above the powerful meeting point of the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean—famously known as the Graveyard of the Pacific. Here, we’ll explain the dramatic history of the Columbia River Bar, one of the most dangerous crossings in the world.
We'll also stop at Battery Russell, a historic military fortification once used for coastal defense. Learn about its wartime history and how the Friends of Fort Stevens are working to preserve and restore the site—plus hear about some of the exciting events they’re hosting this season!
