In the northeastern corner of Asinara, along the island’s main road, lies Cala d’Oliva, a picturesque village nestled between two enchanting coves. This charming hamlet boasts a rich history, once home to the families who later founded Stintino. In 1885, the area was transformed into a penal colony, marking a new chapter in its story. For over a century, Cala d’Oliva housed guards, commanders, and their families, serving as a high-security prison until Asinara became a national park in 1997.
