Itinerary
1
Red Cliffs National Conservation Area
Babylon feels otherworldly — like riding across the surface of Mars.
Wide stretches of red sand, sculpted formations, and rolling anticline rock waves give the landscape a surreal, almost unreal quality. The sand is soft but not deep or technical, making it approachable for first-time riders while still feeling adventurous and fun.
Along the route, you’ll pass landmarks like Babylon House and areas marked with ancient petroglyphs, subtle reminders that people have moved through this desert for thousands of years. What makes Babylon special isn’t speed — it’s the feeling of being somewhere completely different, with quiet, open space, rippling rock, and views that stretch endlessly in every direction.

Concrete ruins and rusted I-beams rise from the red sand near the Virgin River — all that remains of the ill-fated Babylon House and the old Stormont Mill site. Graffiti wraps the skeletal foundation, and as you walk through it, you can’t help but wonder: how could someone live out here?
It’s raw desert history — part mining relic, part abandoned dream — set against towering red cliffs and open sky.

Rolling red sandstone fins — like Moab, but quieter. Babylon Arch sits just off the trail, with no major hike required. This area features more solid bedrock and less deep sand, making it easier and more playful to ride. Here, riders can safely spread out and explore instead of staying in tight formation, enjoying open terrain with sculpted rock in every direction.
