Please note the tour does not enter the Historic Dockyard, go on board its ships. or up the Spinnaker Tower. Old Portsmouth represents over 800 years of history, playing a central part in Britain's role in world events. The tour focuses on the stories of its people, their lives loves and losses, not dreary dates or boring buildings. The total distance is approx. 3km, is flat with no stairs. Your guide has extensive knowledge and can focus on your specific area of interest, whether they be World Wars, industrial archaeology, or Portsmouth's people, as examples. It is suitable for all ages, with stories made relevant for children and teenagers. All content is age-appropriate. Fun facts make it memorable for children of all ages. Content is tailored for locals and visitors alike, dependent upon their interests. The tour can be accessed by people in wheelchairs or mobility scooters. We are dog friendly. There are some wonderful photo opportunities.

You will be walking with Dr Lillian Cespedes Gonzalez, a PhD historian who has been living and studying in the south of England for 13 years. (Please note our team has grown in the last 4 years and although Lillian delivers the majority of our tours, there are other guides now all trained by her who are either historians/educators). During this walk you will learn the history of Portsmouth as a naval city and the impact the development of the Royal Navy had on this town. We will talk about main events in British history such as the First and Second World War, the Peninsula War, the development of naval warfare and the impact it has had in human life. But also, we will get to experience a beautiful and charming seaside city with lovely views and a character of its own.
