Eines davon ist das direkt am Meer gelegene Dorf Plaka, wo wir an Bord des Bootes gehen, das uns auf die inzwischen verlassene Insel Spinalonga bringt. Unser Führer führt uns durch die Ruinen einer ehemaligen Leprakolonie von 1903 bis 1957, in der Leprakranke ein besseres Leben, medizinische Hilfe und wirtschaftliche Unterstützung hatten.
