Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is one of Kyoto’s most important Shinto shrines, dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of scholarship and learning. Kamishichiken is considered Kyoto’s oldest geisha district, located near Kitano Tenmangu Shrine.
