This beautiful square is surrounded by amazing colonial architecture such as the Palace of Cabildo, which is now used as a municipality, the old city hotel, the museum of Garcilaso de la Vega and the house of Illán Suárez de Carbajal, who was an old conquistador.

The square was and still is an important public space, which was formed by the old viceroy of Peru. Here lies the beautiful San Francisco church, its monastery and the oldest school of Cusco.

This monument is a triumphal arch and was created in commemoration of the beginning of the establishment of the Peru-Bolivian Confederation.
