Piazza San Marco often known in English as St Mark's Square, is the principal public square of Venice, Italy, where it is generally known just as la Piazza ("the Square"). All other urban spaces in the city (except the Piazzetta and the Piazzale Roma) are called campi ("fields"). The Piazzetta ("little Piazza/Square") is an extension of the Piazza towards the lagoon in its south east corner (see plan). The two spaces together form the social, religious and political centre of Venice and are commonly considered together. This article relates to both of them.
A remark usually attributed (though without proof) to Napoleon calls the Piazza San Marco "the drawing room of Europe"

Grand Canal
The Grand Canal (Venetian Canal Grando, known in Venetian dialect Canałasso, Canalazzo) is the main canal that crosses the historic center of Venice. About 3800 meters long (30 to 70 m wide, medium depth 5 m), it divides the old town into two parts, tracing an inverted "S", which goes from the bridge of the Liberty Bridge to the San Marco Basin.
It is flanked along its length by magnificent buildings, most of the centuries between the twelfth and eighteenth centuries, which manifest the well-being and art created by the Republic of Venice, making it one of the symbols of the city. Every year the Venetians relive centuries-old traditions of the Serenissima, such as the Historical Regatta.

Île de Burano - Site du patrimoine mondial
Burano is known for its lace work and its small, brightly painted houses, which are popular with artists. The colours of the houses follow a specific system, originating from the golden age of its development. If someone wishes to paint their home, one must send a request to the government, who will respond by making notice of the certain colours permitted for that lot. The island is considered among the ten most colorful places in the world.

Île de Murano
Murano's reputation as a center for glassmaking was born when the Venetian Republic ordered glassmakers to move their furnaces to Murano in 1291. Murano glass is still associated with Venetian glass.
Murano's glassmakers held a monopoly on high-quality glassmaking for centuries, developing or refining many technologies. Today, the artisans of Murano still employ these centuries-old techniques, crafting everything from contemporary art glass and glass jewellery to Murano glass chandeliers and wine stoppers.
