Waqrapukara
Waqrapukara, meaning "Horned Fortress" in Quechua, is an extraordinary archaeological complex that extends along a prominent rocky outcrop flanked by two horn-shaped mountain peaks. This site features eight meticulously crafted Inca terraces, retaining walls, and intricate stone stairways, all of which demonstrate the remarkable engineering skills of the ancient Incas.
The strategic location of Waqrapukara offers panoramic views of the Apurímac River valley and the surrounding Andean landscape, allowing visitors to appreciate the breathtaking intersection of nature's grandeur and human ingenuity. The site is a fortress and a religious sanctuary, possibly dedicated to the god Teqsi Pachakamaq Wiraqocha.
At Waqrapukara, you can explore the various Inca terraces and structures, and learn about the site's historical and cultural significance. The serene and majestic setting also provides the opportunity for photography, meditation, and simply soaking in the tranquil ambiance of the Andes.
