We set off early from your hotel in Cusco and head towards the district of Acomayo. Our destination is Qente Cocha, situated at 4400 meters (14,436 feet) above sea level. From there, we will embark on a 2-hour and 30-minute journey to Waqrapukara, which sits at 4300 meters (14,108 feet) above sea level.

Waqrapukara, meaning "Horned Fortress" in Quechua, is an extraordinary archaeological complex that extends along a prominent rocky outcrop flanked by two horn-shaped mountain peaks. This site features eight meticulously crafted Inca terraces, retaining walls, and intricate stone stairways, all of which demonstrate the remarkable engineering skills of the ancient Incas. The strategic location of Waqrapukara offers panoramic views of the Apurímac River valley and the surrounding Andean landscape, allowing visitors to appreciate the breathtaking intersection of nature's grandeur and human ingenuity. The site is a fortress and a religious sanctuary, possibly dedicated to the god Teqsi Pachakamaq Wiraqocha. At Waqrapukara, you can explore the various Inca terraces and structures, and learn about the site's historical and cultural significance. The serene and majestic setting also provides the opportunity for photography, meditation, and simply soaking in the tranquil ambiance of the Andes.

After exploring Waqrapukara and immersing yourself in the history and culture of the site, the return hike to Wayki will begin, providing further opportunities to take in the stunning landscape and reflect on the impressive accomplishments of the Inca civilization. Upon arriving at the town of Waqui, we will find the transport waiting for us to return to the city of Cusco.
