Palermo Cathedral
Start of Tour:
The Cathedral of Palermo is the most imposing church in Sicily and one of the most significant examples of Arab-Norman architecture. Originally built as a place of Christian worship, it was transformed into a mosque during Arab rule, in 831, and then returned to Christianity with the arrival of the Normans. Inside, the tombs of Norman rulers are preserved, admission to the cathedral is free, while there is a ticket to access the crypts, mausoleums and rooftops, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the city. This is the beginning of our tour, but your journey to discover Palermo can continue on foot along Via Vittorio Emanuele, crossing a pedestrian area full of charm. Continuing on this historic street, you will reach the picturesque Quattro Canti, the splendid Piazza Pretoria with its iconic fountain and, just ahead, the wonderful Arab-Norman churches of Piazza Bellini, authentic jewels of architecture.
