Piazza della Signoria continues to be the political centre of Florence with its Palazzo Vecchio still hosting the meetings of the city counsil.
Its magnificent castle-looking aspect, the presence of world famous statues from the 16th century all around it, its richly decorated courtyard also reminding the period when the Medici family was living in it.
