Just two kilometres from the Taj Mahal is a place most visitors completely miss — and they really shouldn't. The UNESCO World Heritage Agra Fort is a magnificent red sandstone fortress built by Emperor Akbar in 1565. But the story that will genuinely give you chills is this: Shah Jahan — the very emperor who built the Taj Mahal — was imprisoned here by his own son and spent his final years at this tower window, staring across the river at his wife's tomb, unable to ever reach it again.
