These are natural cavities carved into the limestone rock by the action of the sea over the millennia. Wave erosion, combined with the particular geology of the Hyblean Mountains, has created a system of coves, arches and submerged and semi-submerged caves that today form a very suggestive landscape rich in biodiversity.

Ortigia is the historic center of Syracuse, a small island connected to the city by bridges. It is the oldest nucleus, where the Greek Syracuse was born, and today preserves a strong historical stratification between Greek, medieval and Baroque times. Its narrow streets and limestone buildings overlook the sea on all sides, creating very suggestive views. Among the symbolic places is the Duomo, built on an ancient temple dedicated to Athena, of which the columns incorporated in the facade are still visible. Not far away is the Fonte Aretusa, a freshwater spring linked to the myth of the nymph Aretusa. The seafront is one of the most beautiful spots, especially at sunset, when the light colors the walls and the sea. Ortigia is also alive and authentic: markets, restaurants and shops alternate with quiet squares and hidden corners, making it a unique balance between history and everyday life.
