Our Mombasa food tour offers guests a culinary experience carefully curated food adventure, led by our team of Mombasa tastemakers.
Before we get started, our tour reflects the local cuisine, and the limitations of street food vendors and local eateries mean we cannot cater for every dietary restriction. Here's an honest appraisal for the tour, so no-one is disappointed:
✘ Unsuitable for vegetarian and vegan diets as the number of tastings would be very limited
✔ Suitable for no pork, no seafood and halal diets
✔ Gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance, mild nut allergies, are possible, though some tastings do not have alternatives available and the menu would be more limited

Discover the flavours of the Swahili coast on this 4-hour guided food tour through Mombasa’s Old Town. Led by a local tastemaker, you’ll sample 15+ dishes and snacks that showcase the city’s unique blend of African, Arab and Indian influences.
Come hungry, this lunchtime experience includes generous tastings such as mbaazi cow peas cooked in coconut served with warm chapatis, smoky beef skewers grilled over hot charcoal, and one of Old Town’s most loved beef biriyanis.
Along the way, visit the historic spice market to learn about Mombasa’s role in the spice trade, and taste seasonal exotic fruits.
The tour is primarily on foot, allowing you to explore the Old Town, with a short ride on one of Mombasa’s iconic rickshaws between stops.
You’ll finish with a traditional Swahili dish of fragrant onion rice, kingfish in coconut sauce, rich beef broth and shredded chilli mango.
This is not a fine-dining experience, it’s an authentic introduction to Mombasa’s everyday food culture.
