Itinerary
1
Arena di Verona
First obligatory stop in the city of the Scaligeri; an imposing Roman amphiteatre from the I century a.C., where nowadays international shows take place.
2
Casa di Giulietta
In via Cappello at number 23, according to the legend, Juliet’s House is located with her famous balcony.
3
Piazza delle Erbe
The evocative square in the middle of the city centre, which is framed by palaces and buildings that have marked the history of Verona; also nowadays a charateristic market takes place.
4
Piazza dei Signori
The two medioeval squares of the city; the first one called also “Piazza Dante” because of the statue dedicated to the father of the Italian language, whereas the second one included the imposing Lamberti Tower and Palazzo della Ragione.
5
Cortile Mercato Vecchio e Scala della Ragione
The construction works of Palazzo della Ragione began in 1193 and after three years they must already have been a good point if in 1196 in some documents the presence of a Palacium Communis Veronae is mentioned. The palace was presented as a sober, simple and fortified structure. Originally it had to be completed by four corner towers; in addition to the Torre dei Lamberti, there was that of the Cappella or Torrazzo, located in the corner between piazza delle Erbe and the current via Cairoli, and the tower of the Masseria, in the corner between today's via Cairoli and via Dante. For the general architectural balance, another corner tower probably had to stand between Via Dante and Piazza dei Signori, of which, however, no documentation remains.
6
Arche Scaligere
Monumental funerary complex in Gothic style that hosts the final resting place of the Lords of Verona, Della Scala.
7
Romeo's House (Casa di Romeo)
A typical medioeval house, great and externally well preserved.
8
Ponte Pietra
The only remaining bridge from Roman times; built in the I century a.C.
9
Porta Borsari - World Heritage Site
Entrance gate inside the roman walls, which are no longer existing; built in the I century a. C., from here the city’s Decumano Massimo started during Roman times.
10
Ponte Scaligero
Imposing symbol of the Scaligeri era in Verona; built in the second half of the 1300, it was the military fortress of the family, from which started the medioeval walls of the city and it included the Scaligeri Bridge, a unique and suggestive medioeval bidge.
11
Piazza Bra
Lively and bustling square, called simply Brà; all around you can admire the ancient city walls, along with Palazzo della Gran Guardia and the nineteeth century Palazzo Barbieri. On the north side of the piazza, a wide stone pavement, the Liston, is the symbol of this square; here you can find bar and restaurants.
