Storkyrkan
The Stockholm Cathedral or Storkyrkan is considered to be the oldest building in Stockholm, as it is already mentioned in historical documents dating back to 1279.
In the Cathedral, you can see two of the most important works of art in Sweden.
One of them is the sculpture of Sankt Goran och Draken or Saint George and the Dragon, made by Bernt Nokte in 1489.
The second is the famous painting Vadersolstavlan or Sun Dog, which is an optical phenomenon that happened in Stockholm on April 20, 1535. This oil painting is considered to be the first "photograph" of Stockholm.
This Cathedral, which has been Lutheran Protestant since 1527, has been the official Royal Church for all royal weddings since the Middle Ages.
