Dambulla Cave Temple (Golden Temple) – A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest, best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. Dating back to the 1st century BC, this sacred site consists of five caves filled with over 150 Buddha statues and more than 2,000 m² of murals depicting the life of the Buddha. Located in the Cultural Triangle, it sits about 160 km from Colombo (4 hrs drive), 72 km from Kandy (2 hrs drive), and just 20 km from Sigiriya (30 min drive). Perched 160m high on a rock, it also offers panoramic views of the plains, including Sigiriya in the distance.
