Jōruri-ji Temple in southern Kyoto is the only surviving Pure Land-style garden in Japan where a serene pond divides a three-story pagoda enshrining Yakushi Nyorai on the east and a hall housing nine 11th-century Amida Nyorai statues on the west, faithfully expressing Buddhist cosmology through spatial design, and though its remote location makes access challenging, a knowledgeable guide will escort you by bus from the nearest station, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the temple’s spiritual landscape and seasonal beauty.
