Itinerary
Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay was renamed in 1976 in honor of national hero Sam Sharpe, who hailed from the city. Sharpe, known for his role in the 1831-32 Emancipation War, was executed in Montego Bay Market Place on May 23, 1832. The square features several heritage structures, including the Sam Sharpe Monument, the Cage, the Civic Centre, the Freedom Monument, and a fountain. The monument, designed by Kay Sullivan, depicts Sharpe holding his Bible and addressing his people. Unveiled in 1983 by then-Prime Minister Edward Seaga, the monument stands as a testament to Sharpe's legacy.
