Itinerary
1
Laranjeiras
A historic neighbourhood which was once known for its orange groves and stately country homes, it was also the home of Machado de Assis, one of Brazil's most important literary figures.
2
Caixa da Mãe D'água - Rio Carioca
At this historic point we meet the Carioca River-the main source of water for the city in its early days, after which the people of Rio call themselves 'Cariocas'.
15 minutes
3
Mirante Dona Marta
One of the best views in Rio de Janeiro, this lookout is at the top of the steepest climb of the ride, but there is time to rest and take in the scenery.
20 minutes
4
Centro de Visitantes Paineiras
The Paineiras visitors centre at the base of Christ the Redeemer offers a lookout and a chance to grab a drink and a snack. The centre houses a museum about the history of the area, including Christ the Redeemer and the funicular railway built to access it.
25 minutes
5
Parque Nacional da Tijuca
We enter the Redentor Road for some of the most amazing cycling of any city in the world. There are spectacular views, roadside waterfalls, and if we are lucky, forest animals passing by. This section is closed to private cars, so you can relax and soak in the world's biggest urban rainforest.
