Sandeman Cellars
In front of the city of Porto, is the majority of the cellars where, for hundreds of years, Port wine has been aged.
The fundamental difference of Port wine in relation to the rest of the wines is the brandy that they include to interrupt the fermentation. Thus, the drink conserves the original sweetness of the grapes maintaining a high level of alcohol.
The idea of putting brandy in the wine came in the seventeenth century, when English merchants were interested in buying Portuguese wines, but these wines could not stand the long journeys in the ships that carried them. From there they had the idea of starting to strengthen them with brandy so that they did not spoil.
