Ephesus is one of the most important and best-preserved ancient cities in the world, located near the town of Selçuk in western Turkey. Just 20–25 minutes from Kuşadası Cruise Port, it’s a must-visit destination for cruise passengers. Founded in the 10th century BC, Ephesus reached its peak during Roman times when it was a major port city and home to over 250,000 people. The city boasts incredible landmarks, including the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre, Marble Street, the Temple of Hadrian, and the beautifully decorated Terrace Houses. Ephesus is also closely linked to early Christianity; the House of the Virgin Mary, believed to be her final residence, is located nearby. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ephesus offers a glimpse into ancient life through its remarkable architecture, art, and urban planning. It is one of the most popular shore excursions in Turkey, attracting millions of visitors each year.

Meryemana (The Virgin Mary's House)
According to Christian tradition, the Virgin Mary lived her final years here, brought to Ephesus by St. John the Apostle after the crucifixion of Jesus. The belief is based on the visions of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich, a 19th-century German nun, whose descriptions led to the discovery of the site in the 1800s.
Though there is no definitive archaeological evidence proving Mary’s presence, the Catholic Church recognizes the site as a place of spiritual significance. It is visited by thousands of pilgrims annually, including Popes Paul VI, John Paul II, and Benedict XVI.
