Itinerary
1
Sapporo TV Tower
Meet your private guide at the 1st floor entrance of Sapporo TV Tower. After a short introduction, start the tour by heading up to the observation deck. Seeing the city from above first helps you understand Sapporo’s layout before exploring it on foot.
Start with panoramic views from the Sapporo TV Tower observation deck. From here, you can see Odori Park stretching through the city and understand Sapporo’s unique grid-style layout. Your guide will introduce the city’s history, main districts, and seasonal events before the walking tour begins.
40 minutes
2
Hokkaido Shrine Ton-gu
Walk from the TV Tower toward Hokkaido Jingu Tongu. Along the way, your guide will explain Sapporo’s organized street system, address style, and how the city center was planned. This short walk connects the city view from above with the streets you are about to explore.
Visit Hokkaido Jingu Tongu, a peaceful shrine hidden near the city center. Learn about torii gates, shrine etiquette, guardian komainu statues, and how Japanese people pray for good luck, safe travel, family happiness, and success. Your guide will also introduce omikuji paper fortunes, a fun and memorable shrine tradition.
Omikuji is a Japanese paper fortune that gives advice about health, love, work, travel, money, and future plans. If the fortune is good, many people keep it. If it is not so good, some people tie it at the shrine to leave the bad luck behind.
20 minutes
3
Nijo Market
Continue on foot to Nijo Market. As you walk through the central city area, your guide will introduce the connection between Sapporo’s old commercial streets, local markets, and food culture. The atmosphere changes from a quiet shrine to a lively market district.
Explore Nijo Market, a historic local market known for Hokkaido seafood and fresh produce. See ingredients such as crab, scallops, sea urchin, salmon roe, kelp, melons, and seasonal vegetables. Your guide will explain Hokkaido’s food culture and share tips on what to try after the tour.
20 minutes
4
Tanukikoji Shopping Street
Walk from Nijo Market to Tanukikoji Shopping Street. This short route shows how food, shopping, and everyday local life are closely connected in central Sapporo. It is a great way to experience the city beyond the major sightseeing landmarks.
Walk through the first blocks of Tanukikoji Shopping Street, one of Hokkaido’s oldest shopping arcades. The covered arcade is lined with restaurants, souvenir shops, drugstores, cafes, and local businesses. Your guide will introduce how this area connects Sapporo’s past and present shopping culture.
20 minutes
5
Odori Park
Return to Odori Park, the symbolic heart of Sapporo. After seeing the park from the TV Tower, now experience it at street level. Your guide will introduce its role as a public park and event venue, including the Snow Festival, summer beer gardens, autumn food events, and winter illuminations.
20 minutes
6
Former Hokkaido Government Office Building
Visit the Former Hokkaido Government Office, known as the Red Brick Office. This beautiful historic building represents Hokkaido’s development and administration during the Meiji period. Its red brick exterior, Western-style architecture, and peaceful front garden make it one of Sapporo’s most photogenic landmarks.
(On this occasion, we will only be viewing the exterior.)
20 minutes
7
Clock Tower (Tokei-dai)
Walk from the Red Brick Office to the Sapporo Clock Tower. Along the way, see how modern office buildings and historic landmarks stand side by side in central Sapporo. This part of the tour connects Hokkaido’s administrative and educational history.
See the Sapporo Clock Tower, one of the city’s most famous historic landmarks. Originally built as a drill hall for Sapporo Agricultural College, it reflects the early modernization of Hokkaido. Although surrounded by modern buildings today, it remains an important symbol of Sapporo’s history.
(On this occasion, we will only be viewing the exterior.)

8
Odori Park
The tour ends at Odori Park. Before saying goodbye, your guide can share local tips for lunch, cafes, shopping, or your next sightseeing stop. The central location makes it easy to continue exploring Sapporo on your own after the tour.
