These giant, perfectly rounded boulders, some measuring over 2 metres in diameter and weighing several tonnes, were formed around 60 million years ago through a natural process called concretion. The Moeraki Boulders offer a fascinating blend of geology, Māori history, and spectacular coastal scenery, making them a must-visit destination and a favourite spot for photography.
