Your first stop is Camp Hale, the valley floor where the Army trained the 10th Mountain Division to fight in the Alps. Thirty thousand soldiers learned to ski and climb here during the Second World War, and the foundations of their barracks still sit in the meadow. It became a National Monument in 2022.
