Nahr El Kalb
Dog River — 3,000 years of history on one cliff face
A fascinating brief stop at the Dog River canyon — where the limestone cliff walls have served as a remarkable living record of history for over three millennia. Egyptian Pharaoh Ramesses II carved his victory inscription here in 1274 BC. Assyrian kings, Roman emperors, French generals, and the modern Lebanese Republic all followed — each leaving their mark on the same cliff face that has been recording the passage of civilisations since before the birth of Christ. Your driver points out the key inscriptions and explains the remarkable story behind this unique and easily overlooked treasure.

Grotte de Jeita
Jeita Grotto — Lebanon's most spectacular natural wonder
Arrive at Lebanon's most visited and most celebrated natural attraction — Jeita Grotto, a UNESCO tentative World Heritage Site and a top-five finalist in the New 7 Wonders of Nature. Two interconnected limestone caves stretching 9 kilometres beneath the Lebanese mountains offer two completely different and equally wonderful experiences. The upper cave is explored on foot through an elevated walkway — stalactites and stalagmites up to 8 metres tall create formations of breathtaking natural beauty all around you. The lower cave is navigated by silent electric boat along an underground river through chambers of extraordinary stillness and beauty. A truly magical experience that visitors of all ages find completely unforgettable — one of the highlights of any Lebanon visit.

The 12th-century Crusader castle was built from recycled Phoenician and Roman stones — civilisations beautifully layered upon each other in the walls themselves. Inside: Neolithic foundations, Bronze Age temples, Phoenician royal tombs, and Roman streets. Byblos gave the world its alphabet — and its very name gave us the word Bible. Your driver shares these wonderful stories as you explore at your own comfortable pace.
