Baatara Gorge Waterfall — Lebanon's most spectacular natural formation Nothing prepares you for Baatara. A path through pine forest leads to a viewing platform at the rim of a natural limestone sinkhole — and there, 255 metres below, a waterfall drops through three natural stone bridges carved by millions of years of erosion, disappearing into a cavern carved by the same forces. The Baatara Gorge is one of the most extraordinary geological formations in the Middle East — the waterfall feeds an underground river that eventually surfaces kilometres away, and the entire structure was carved by water alone over millions of years. Best visited between February and May when the waterfall is at full flow, but spectacular year-round.
