The guide will meet guests in central Cairo and escort them through the bustling streets of Islamic Cairo toward Al-Azhar Mosque. Along the way, the guide will share the mosque’s rich history as one of the oldest universities in the world and a center of Islamic scholarship. Upon arrival, the guide will explain the mosque’s stunning Fatimid architecture, minarets, and white marble courtyard. Guests will be guided through the prayer halls (respectfully and following dress code), while learning about Al-Azhar’s spiritual, educational, and cultural significance in Egypt and the wider Muslim world.

Al Moez Ldin Allah Al Fatmi
From Al-Azhar Mosque, the guide will lead guests on foot to Moezz Street, one of the oldest and most historic streets in Cairo. Along the way, the guide will explain its importance as a vibrant showcase of Islamic architecture and daily life in medieval Cairo. Upon arrival, the guide will walk guests through the street’s narrow alleys, pointing out beautifully preserved mosques, madrasas, sabils, and Ottoman-era houses. As they explore, the guide will share stories about Cairo’s golden Islamic era, stopping for photo opportunities and optional visits to heritage sites, shops.
The tour will continue to Bab Zuweila, one of the last remaining gates of Fatimid Cairo. The guide will highlight its strategic importance in the city’s defenses and its dramatic history, including public executions and Mamluk ceremonies. Guests can optionally climb the minarets for a panoramic view of Old Cairo, while the guide explains the gate’s architectural features and its role in Cairo’s rich past.

As the group approaches, the guide will share the gate’s historical role as a northern entrance to Cairo, built in the 11th century to defend the city. Upon arrival, the guide will highlight its massive stone towers and intricate carvings, explaining how Bab al-Futuh once welcomed traders and armies into the city. Guests will learn about its military architecture and strategic design, and may have the chance to explore the nearby sections of the ancient wall.
