The Alentejo is home to many megalithic structures, including cromlechs, menirs, and dolmens. It is during this period when agriculture emerged, along with many other significant cultural and social developments.

Templo Romano Évora

From Evora we will embark on a 25 minute drive to reach the Vidigueira Dolmen. We are able to park very near to the monument, but conditions are weather dependent. Here, we will introduce the region’s Neolithic and discuss the history of this monument, from use and origins to discovery and excavation. You will then have plenty of time to ask questions and take photos.

Anta da Herdade da Candeeira (Redondo)
We will hop back in the van and make our way to Candeeira Dolmen, located about 20 minutes away. We will then make the short (~ 5-10 minute) walk to the monument, located at the base of the Serra d'Ossa mountain range. Please note that the condition of the path is weather dependent. Here we will continue our discussion of Neolithic burial practices, while also highlighting the monument’s unique features and history. You will once again have time to ask questions, take photos, and explore the surrounding landscape.
Our return journey to Évora will commence thereafter, with drop-offs scheduled between 11:30-12:30 (morning tour) & 16:30-17:30 (afternoon tour).
