Brazen Palace (Lovamahapaya) in Anuradhapura will step into the heart of Sri Lanka’s ancient royal capital. Once a magnificent nine-story monastery built in the 2nd century BCE, this historic site was said to have had a bronze-tiled roof that shimmered in the sunlight — giving it the name “Brazen Palace.”

You will experience one of the most sacred and awe-inspiring Buddhist monuments in the country. Built in the 2nd century BCE by King Dutugemunu, this magnificent white stupa rises gracefully against the sky, creating a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere.

The stupa is believed to enshrine the right collarbone relic of the Buddha, making it a highly revered pilgrimage site. Thuparamaya is notable for its distinctive circular design and the stone pillars (vatadage remains) that surround it, which once supported a protective roof structure. Today, it stands as an important symbol of Sri Lanka’s ancient Buddhist heritage and architectural history.

The Moonstone, known locally as Sandakada Pahana, is a beautifully carved semicircular stone slab found at the entrances of ancient Buddhist temples in Anuradhapura. Eth Pokuna, also known as the “Elephant Pond,” is a large ancient stone-built water reservoir located in Anuradhapura. Believed to have been constructed during the Anuradhapura period, it was designed to supply water to the nearby monasteries and communities.

Abhayagiri Stupa is one of the largest and most important ancient stupas in Anuradhapura. It was built in the 1st century BCE by King Valagamba and became the center of the Abhayagiri Monastery, a major Buddhist monastic complex.

The Twin Ponds (Kuttam Pokuna) are a pair of ancient bathing tanks built by ancient kings in Anuradhapura. Dating back to the Anuradhapura period, these ponds feature elegant stone walls, staircases, and sophisticated water channels.

The Jethavana Stupa is the largest brick monument in the world, located in Anuradhapura. Built by King Mahasena in the 3rd century CE, it was part of the Jetavana Monastery complex.
