You start in Memphis, the original Old Kingdom capital where Ramses II's colossal limestone statue lies in the open-air museum. Then to Saqqara, the royal necropolis where the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the very first pyramid ever built, rises out of the desert. Finally to Giza, where the pyramid form reached its monumental peak with the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Sphinx, and a camel ride along the ridge.
