The city of Amarante is dominated by the magnificent church and monastery of Sao Gonçalo. São Gonçalo was a Benedictine monk who settled here after traveling through Italy and Jerusalem.
Next to the Church is an impressive bridge. The Amarante Bridge brings to mind the population's heroic resistance to Napoleon's forces who, at the beginning of the 20th century, XIX, who invaded Portugal.
After a short visit to the city, you will taste the famous Vinho Verde accompanied by some delicacies from the region.
