We travel about 50km from Hoi An, Da Nang city to My Son sanctuary. It comprises many Champa temples, in a valley roughly two kilometers wide, surrounded by two mountain ranges. It was the site of religious ceremonies of kings of the Champa civilization and was also a burial place of Champa royals and national heroes. The My Son temple complex is one of the foremost temple complexes of Hinduism in South East Asia and is the foremost heritage site of this nature in Vietnam. Though the complex has been destroyed over time, we still see many majestic ancient ruins of temples in the area.

The My Son Museum, nestled at the entrance to the UNESCO-listed My Son Sanctuary in central Vietnam, serves as an essential prelude to exploring the ancient Cham temple complex. Housed in structures that blend French colonial architecture with local influences, this compact yet invaluable institution boasts the world's largest collection of Cham artifacts, including intricately carved statues, lingas, and altars salvaged from the site's ruins. Visitors are treated to detailed exhibits on Cham culture, Hindu-influenced religion, daily life, and innovative construction techniques—such as the mysterious bonding of bricks without mortar—that bring the history of the Champa Kingdom (spanning the 4th to 13th centuries) vividly to life. By providing crucial context about the temples' dedication to deities like Shiva and the site's wartime damage from US bombings, the museum ensures that explorers approach the weathered towers and sanctuaries with a deeper appreciation.
