Three of Lebanon's most iconic experiences — Roman grandeur, ancient wine, and a sacred cedar forest — in one extraordinary private day from Beirut. This tour takes you east into the Bekaa Valley to stand among the greatest Roman temples on earth at Baalbek, then to Chateau Ksara — Lebanon's oldest winery, founded by Jesuit monks in 1857 — for a guided cellar tour through 2 kilometres of ancient Roman cave tunnels and a tasting of their finest wines. 8:30 AM — Departure from Beirut
Your private English-speaking driver collects you from your Beirut hotel and heads east on the Damascus highway, climbing through the Lebanese mountains before the Bekaa Valley opens dramatically below — stretching between two mountain ranges with the snow-capped peaks of the Anti-Lebanon on the horizon.

حجر المرأة الحامل
Before entering the temples, stop at the ancient Roman quarry on the edge of Baalbek to see the Stone of the Pregnant Woman — a single block of limestone measuring 21 metres long and weighing an estimated 1,000 tonnes, still lying exactly where it was cut 2,000 years ago and never moved. It is one of the heaviest objects ever worked by human hands in the ancient world. Standing beside it and realising the Romans cut and planned to move stones even larger than this sets the scene perfectly for what you are about to see at the temple complex.

معابد بعلبك
Temple of Venus & the wider complex
Complete the temple complex with the elegant circular Temple of Venus and the broader archaeological site — the Great Court, Altar Court, and propylaea gateway — before heading south toward Ksara.

معبد جوبيتر
Enter the greatest temple of the Roman world — built on a platform of megalithic stones so enormous that three of them, the Trilithon, each weigh over 800 tonnes, representing the largest dressed stones ever used in construction in human history. Six of the original 54 columns still stand at 22 metres tall. Your driver-guide explains the extraordinary engineering mystery that still baffles archaeologists — how the Romans moved and lifted stones of this scale with ancient technology.

معبد باخوس
Walk to the Temple of Bacchus — larger than the Parthenon in Athens and almost entirely intact, its towering carved doorway, ornate ceiling coffers, and 42 standing columns make it the best-preserved Roman temple in the world. Most visitors consider this the undisputed highlight of Baalbek — a complete Roman temple standing as it stood two thousand years ago in a state of preservation that seems almost impossible.

شاتو كسارا
Arrive at Chateau Ksara — the oldest and most storied winery in Lebanon, founded by Jesuit monks in 1857 and now the country's largest wine producer. The highlight is the extraordinary Roman cave cellar system stretching 2 kilometres beneath the winery — a network of ancient tunnels discovered by the Jesuits in the late 19th century where wine ages at a naturally constant temperature year-round. Walking through these caves is as much an archaeological experience as a wine one. The tasting that follows showcases Ksara's iconic Cabernet-Syrah blends, its crisp Blanc de Blancs, and the beloved Sunset Rosé — wines that have put Lebanese viticulture firmly on the world map.

محمية الشوف للمحيط الحيوي غابة أرز الباروك
From Ksara, a scenic mountain road climbs south through the Lebanese ranges into the Chouf Mountains — one of the most dramatic drives in Lebanon, crossing from the Bekaa Valley floor to the high mountain ridge. Arrive at the Chouf Cedar Reserve — the largest nature reserve in Lebanon and home to the country's most extensive surviving cedar forests, a UNESCO-recognised natural heritage. Walk among ancient cedar trees, some over 1,000 years old, in a landscape of extraordinary stillness and beauty. These are the descendants of the great forests that built Phoenician ships, Solomon's Temple, and Egyptian palaces — and standing among them, at altitude, with the Bekaa Valley visible far below, is one of the most memorable moments any visitor takes home from Lebanon.

Return to Beirut — approx. 5:30–6:00 PM
Scenic drive back to Beirut with drop-off at your hotel — completing a full day that crossed three of Lebanon's most extraordinary landscapes: the Roman Bekaa, the wine valleys of Ksara, and the ancient cedar forests of the Chouf.
