Hirayama Ikuo était l'un des peintres les plus célèbres du Japon, travaillant dans le style traditionnel japonais Nihonga. Le Musée d'Art Hirayama Ikuo (平山郁夫美術館, Hirayama Ikuo Bijutsukan) est situé sur l'île d'Ikuchijima, où l'artiste est né en 1930. Hirayama est décédé en 2009. De nombreux thèmes abordés dans l'œuvre d'Hirayama ont persisté tout au long de sa carrière. L'un d'eux est le concept de paix. Hirayama était étudiant à Hiroshima en 1945 et, à ce titre, il a été témoin de la destruction de la bombe et a souffert des effets des radiations. Un autre de ses thèmes récurrents était les échanges culturels avec l'Orient, notamment la transmission du bouddhisme au Japon. Le musée Hirayama est moderne et bien entretenu. Il comprend trois salles d'exposition spacieuses, un salon de thé et une boutique. Une variété d'œuvres d'Hirayama tout au long de sa carrière sont conservées dans la collection permanente du musée, et des expositions spéciales sont également organisées.

Le pont de Tatara, avec sa travée centrale de 890 m de long, est le deuxième plus long pont à haubans au monde. Un pont suspendu a été initialement prévu ; cependant, le type de pont a été revu en tenant compte de la préservation de la nature environnante et des conditions économiques de l'ouvrage, compte tenu des progrès techniques des ponts à haubans. La hauteur de la tour s'élève à 226 m au-dessus du niveau de la mer, ce qui en fait le point culminant du tracé. Le pont de Tatara est jumelé au pont de Normandie en France, qui est le troisième plus long pont à haubans au monde.

A whimsical narrow lane winding up the hillside, the Cat Alley is decorated with painted 'lucky cat' stones and quirky art, and is often visited by the neighborhood's real cats. It's one of Onomichi's most charming and photogenic spots for a leisurely stroll.

Onomichi has a long association with Japanese cinema, having been the setting for many classic films. This small museum celebrates that heritage with vintage projectors, posters and movie memorabilia, offering insight into the town's nostalgic, film-set atmosphere.

Le temple Kosanji (耕三寺, Kōsanji) est situé sur l'île d'Ikuchijima et appartient à la secte de la Terre Pure du bouddhisme japonais. Fondé en 1936 par un homme d'affaires prospère, inspiré par sa dévotion envers sa mère, il a été construit sur plus de 30 ans. Si les visiteurs ressentent un fort sentiment de déjà-vu, c'est parce que de nombreux bâtiments s'inspirent de temples parmi les plus célèbres du Japon. Les répliques de bâtiments célèbres du Kosanji sont impressionnantes, notamment celles de la porte Yomeimon de Nikko Toshogu et du pavillon du Phénix de Byodoin. L'ensemble des bâtiments du temple est coloré et varié, tout en conservant un style cohérent. Un autre point fort du temple est une longue grotte dans laquelle sont exposées des images illustrant les tortures de l'enfer bouddhiste.

Hiroshima has a bustling downtown area, the main feature of which is Hondori Street. Hondori is a pedestrian arcade that is closed to traffic and lined with shops and restaurants. It starts near the Peace Park and stretches east about half a kilometer. Running parallel to Hondori is Aioidori (Aioi Street), the main street used by cars and trams.

One of Onomichi's grandest temples, Saikokuji is famous for the enormous straw sandals hanging at its Niomon gate, said to grant strong legs and safe travels. Climb the stone steps past the main hall and pagoda for a peaceful atmosphere away from the crowds.

This hillside temple is best known for its picturesque three-storied pagoda, one of Onomichi's most photographed landmarks. From here you can enjoy lovely views over the town's rooftops down to the Seto Inland Sea, with the pagoda framing the scene.

Set within Senkoji Park and designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando, this art museum hosts changing exhibitions in a striking concrete building. It is also famous for the friendly cats that try to enter the museum, a quirky local attraction in itself.

D'une longueur totale de 1 270 mètres, le pont d'Innoshima relie l'île de Mukaishima à l'île d'Innoshima et constitue l'un des ponts formant Shimanami Kaido. À son pied, du côté de l'île d'Innoshima, se trouve le parc commémoratif du pont d'Innoshima.

Just across the narrow channel from Onomichi, the island of Mukaishima is reached by a charming short ferry ride. It offers lovely views back toward the town and its temple-dotted hillside, plus a relaxed island atmosphere and the starting point of the famous Shimanami Kaido cycling route.
