The architectural layout of the Forbidden City is rigorous and is divided into two parts: the Outer Court and the Inner Court. The Outer Court was the place where the emperor held major ceremonies and handled state affairs. The Inner court was the main residence of the emperor and empress, followed by the imperial garden. The architectural style of the Forbidden City is grand and magnificent, featuring various roof forms and exquisite decorations such as glazed tiles, colored paintings and carvings, which reflect the superb craftsmanship and unique charm of ancient Chinese palace architecture.
