Mount Aso, located in the northeastern part of Kumamoto Prefecture in Kyushu, is a famous active volcano in Japan with a cratered shape that is rarely seen in the world. It is one of the few places where you can see an active volcano up close. You can gaze into the caldera from a safe distance and see the white smoke rising from the crater, creating a breathtaking experience of nature's power and stunning beauty.
Aso Sangokusenri
Aso Sangokusenri is a prairie located at the northern foot of Mt. Umagatake. There is a pond formed by rainwater in the center of the prairie, and cattle and horses graze on the prairie, providing a diverse range of scenery throughout the year. The 20,000-hectare grassland is so vast that you can enjoy a leisurely walk in the lush green grassland, watch free-ranging cows and sheep, and breathe in the fresh air of the mountains, giving you the illusion of being in a fairyland.
Aso Crater is currently closed. Please do not book if this is a concern.
