Point de vue du Pico Dos Barcelos
First stop at this hilltop viewpoint on the western edge of Funchal, at around 355 metres altitude. Wide views over the city, the coastline and the surrounding hills. A good place to get your bearings on the island before heading inland.

Miradouro Eira do Serrado
The road climbs into the mountain interior until reaching this viewpoint above the Valley of the Nuns. From here you look down into the horseshoe-shaped valley, surrounded by steep volcanic ridges. One of the most recognised views on the island.
